In an emergency

If it is happening now, call 111 and ask for Police.

If you can’t talk and you are on a cell phone, stay quiet and listen for the ‘press 55’ prompt.

If you can’t talk and you are on a landline phone, stay quiet and listen to the operator who will tell you to press any button for help.

How to report foreign interference

How can you report foreign interference? Ethnic Communities in New Zealand don’t have to tolerate foreign interference. You can report foreign interference to the New Zealand Police and the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS). They will make sure your information gets to the right place.

Reporting security concerns may feel like you’re taking a risk, especially if you’re worried about what may happen next. If you decide to submit a report, you can feel confident that: reporting is safe, help is available, you will be taken seriously, your information will be treated with care and kept confidential, you are not in trouble.

If it is an emergency and happening now: call 111 and ask for the New Zealand Police. If you can’t talk and you are on a mobile, stay quiet and listen for the ‘press 55’ prompt. If you can't talk and you are on a landline follow the operator’s instructions.

If it is not an emergency, you can still report foreign interference to the New Zealand Police. You can use the 105 online form on police.govt.nz. The 105 form asks for some of your personal information to help the New Zealand Police process your report and follow up with you. You can also call 105 for free from any mobile or landline at any time.

You can also report foreign interference to the NZSIS. You can use the secure online form on nzsis.govt.nz. You don’t have to give your personal information, such as your name, phone number, or contact details, if you don’t want to. You can fill out the form in your own language. If you want to talk to someone at the NZSIS, you can call them on 0800 747 224. Visit nzsis.govt.nz for more information. If you leave your contact details, the NZSIS will only contact you if they need more information. When the NZSIS sees your report, they will decide what to do next. If they don’t contact you, it doesn’t mean that they have ignored your report.

You can share information anonymously through Crime Stoppers New Zealand. Crime Stoppers is an independent charity that provides a safe and simple way to report crime or other serious concerns to authorities, including Immigration New Zealand, New Zealand Customs and the New Zealand Police. This includes information about possible foreign interference in New Zealand. You can submit a report anonymously using the online form or speak to someone by calling Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111. Visit crimestoppers-nz.org for more information. Your identity will not be shared with authorities.

It is important to note that while an anonymous report can provide important information to New Zealand Police, it may not provide enough information for New Zealand Police to conduct a formal investigation and doesn’t count as a formal complaint. Remember, the information you have, no matter how small, could help identify and address foreign interference.

If something doesn’t look or feel right, it’s best to report it. Together, we can protect what makes New Zealand strong.

We can all help keep New Zealand safe from foreign interference by reporting it to the NZSIS or the Police. No matter which way you choose, they will make sure your information gets to the right place.

Report foreign interference to the NZSIS

You can report foreign interference using the secure online form on the NZSIS website.

You don’t have to give your personal information like your name, phone number, or contact details if you don’t want to. You can also fill out the form in your own language.

If you want to talk to someone at NZSIS, you can call them on +64 4 472 6170 or 0800 747 224.

When the NZSIS sees your report, they will check it. If you leave your contact details, the NZSIS will only contact you if they need more information. If the NZSIS don’t contact you, it doesn’t mean they have ignored your report.

If it’s not an emergency, you can contact the Police by:

calling 105 from any mobile or landline, this service is free and available 24/7 nationwide.

The 105 form asks for some of your personal information to help the Police process your report and follow up with you. The Police only use this information for permitted purposes.
